PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale Release Date: Developer Says Kratos Among The Hardest Characters To Create

The recently released crossover fighting video game, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale by SuperBot Entertainment and SCE Santa Monica Studio features many of the best first-party and third party characters from variety of gaming genres.

According to a recent CVG interview with SuperBot game director Omar Kendall, the hardest characters to create were the ones still being developed like DmC; Devil May Cry's Dante and Metal Gear Solid's Raiden.

"The hardest characters are the Dantes and the Raidens," Kendall said. "The ones that are still being developed, and we take a lot of educated guesses in terms of how players are going to respond to those characters."

But there is another surprising character to make the list of hardest characters to create in the game is one that seems tailor made for a fighting game. Kendall says in the interview that God of War protagonist Kratos was the hardest character to create in Sony's new mash-up brawler.

"But even a character like Kratos, who has appeared in half a dozen action games, his problem is that he has so much functionality," Kendall said. "He has so many weapons, so many appearances and so many iconic moments."

Kendall also said that one of the reasons it is difficult to recreate the character for PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, is because fans have a history with the character of Kratos.

"The Kratos that appears in the mind of players when they imagine Kratos is really hard to get," Kendall said. "Is there a particular weapon, or a particular moment in that character's history that speaks to players as the quintessential Kratos move or moment? It's characters like that which present the greatest challenge, the ones that have the longest lineage. You need to try to capture that essence in a few dozen moves."

Kendall also mentions in the interview that his favorite fighter in the game is Heavenly Sword's heroine, Nariko.

"My favorite is Nariko. I think she has a really cool style, and just in general she's a character that has always been very interesting, Kendall said. "She hasn't had the loudest voice to date, but I think the way she comes together really pays tribute to her character. She's got a real high risk / high reward play style that I enjoy. "

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is now available in all territories except in Japan where it will release in January 2013. You can check out the rest of Kendall's interview with CVG here. Read and see the game's "Robot Chicken" trailer here and check out the game's live-action trailer below...
