Gran Turismo 5 Players Get Corvette C7 Test Prototype (Watch Video)

The collaboration between Chevrolet and developers Polyphony Digital has let players of Gran Turismo 5 get a new vehicle - Corvette C7 Test Prototype for their game. This was announced at LA Auto Show, Nov. 29.

The collaboration creates an authentic driving experience and gives players the smallest details of the prototype. While the actual vehicle will be unveiled in January 2013, SlashGear reported.

"With spy photos valued at an estimated $100,000, Chevrolet has gone to extreme measures to disguise the test car." The original "test prototype continues to undergo extensive performance and durability testing in preparation for final production. Millions of hours will be accumulated through thousands of rigorous performance trials before the car is released later in 2013," said PlayStation blog.

The game has all the last six generation of Corvettes from C1 of 1953 to C6 in the gameplay.

"Until now, only the most skilled drivers on the Corvette team have been authorized to push the test prototypes to the limits on some of the most challenging track surfaces in the world. Through this unique collaboration with Gran Turismo, Chevrolet is able, for the first time, to give performance car enthusiasts access to such an exclusive driving experience," said Chris Perry, Vice President of Chevrolet Global Marketing in a statement.

The Gran Turismo franchise has sold more than 67 million units since their launch in 1998.

"As car enthusiasts, we're thrilled to give fans this extraordinary level of access to the seventh generation Corvette that otherwise would not be possible," said Kazunori Yamauchi, Polyphony President.

The title also holds the record for being the all-time highest selling PlayStation console exclusive.

Now owners of PlayStation 3 can download the camouflaged Corvette C7 Test Prototype as downloadable content from PlayStation Store for free.
