Nintendo NX Release Date & Update: Console to be Announced in October, May Use Cartridges

There's already so much buzz surrounding Nintendo's upcoming home console nicknamed "Nintendo NX," slated to arrive next year. While the company remains tight-lipped about the upcoming console that they chose not to debut during this year's E3, critics and industry experts are already expecting an announcement next month.

According to The Wall Street Journal, analysts believe that the Japanese consumer electronics and software company will most likely make the "Nintendo NX" announcement in October. The highly anticipated console is set to debut in March 2017, which isn't a long way from now.

Gamespot reports that the "Nintendo NX" is supposedly a home console that also has TV capabilities, and will also double as a portable device for mobile gaming. In fact, some reports say that the new console is actually a handheld device that will utilize detachable controller modules. It seems that the "Nintendo NX" will be using cartridges, despite its limited space, compared to discs such as those found in PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Those discs can store up to 50GB of data, giving gamers more storage.

It's difficult to tell how promising "Nintendo NX" is with no confirmed specs or features released by the company. However, gamers may rest easy knowing that the company is doing their best to deliver a groundbreaking new console. Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime is determined to "do better job communicating the positioning for the product" and "do a better job helping people to understand its uniqueness and what that means for the game playing experience."

The Wii U seems to be lagging behind Microsoft's Xbox One and Sony's PlayStation 4, as the two remain to be the dominants in the console market. In fact, Xbox One has reported stellar sales this July, outselling the Sony console in that month. We reported on this, as well as Sony's intention to announce the PlayStation Neo this month.

Keep checking back for more on the latest "Nintendo NX" and PS4 Neo updates.
