Nvidia GPU for desktops is now available for VR ready gaming laptops. The Nvidia GPUs for laptops has been made possible with the Pascal architecture, bringing desktop graphics chips in laptops.
The performance is on par with desktop performance having only a slower base clock speed of the GTX 1060 running on a notebook. Nvidia demonstrated Gears of War 4 with a GTX 1080 running on a notebook with the results of 4K running at 60fps. Some tests have shown the GTX 1080 with better performance than the other models.
Nvidia GPUs in notebooks performs 150 percent more than the M chips they replaced. The GTX 980 has been replaced by the GTX 1070 that runs 2,048 CUDA cores at 1645Mhz, with an 8GB of GDDR5 memory. The GTX 1060 replaces the 970M. It runs 1,280 CUDA scores at 1670Mhz having a 6GB of GDDR5 memory. The GTX 1080 runs, 2,560 CUDA cores at 1733 Mhz, with 8GB storage of GDDR5X memory.
Gamers reportedly get 30 percent more battery life with Nvidia GPUs. The battery boost technology has been tweaked improving frame variance when gaming without AC. Zdnet also reports that Nvidia has more plans to implement this time around.
Nvidia GPUs promises VR ready performance. The excellent results of the GTX 1080 are promising. The GTX 1080 the games were graphically intense, but can get foggy on the GTX 1060 performing with a basic boxing game but varies with every game. The VR ready promise only applies to AC power. Nvidia can't guarantee battery performance alone.
Major OEM and system builders like Lenovo, Alienware, EVGA, Asus, HP, MSI, Razer, Acer, and more will offer Pascal-based notebooks. With Nvidia GPUs, notebooks can be as thin as 18mm at only 4 pounds. OEMs can create notebooks having 120Hz displays.
Around 10 percent factory over-clocking is now possible with the GTX 1080 and later on with the GTX 1070 and GTX 1060. Laptop makers can create SLI notebooks with water-cooling in all shapes and sizes. In a different note, Tech Spot also relayed that Samsung is also considering partnership with Nvidia to utilize GPU tech for mobile devices.
Nvidia GPUs are now available on gaming notebooks with the GTX 1060, GTX 1070, and GTX 1080. More notebook makers are expected to create updated models in preparation for the holidays.
