'Jakku: First Wave' News & Update: Short Film Gives Viewers A Closer Look On What It's Like To Be A Stormtrooper

Stormtroopers were considered as generic and faceless thugs who could not hit at all throughout the entire Star Wars franchise. Fortunately, they were redeemed with "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" when it featured a protagonist who was a Stormtrooper but left the order because he could not stand killing. After that, a new fan made Star Wars short film goes even further by making its viewers actually feel what it is really like to be one of these Stormtroopers.

Slash Film gives a closer look on "Jakku: First Wave," which is a simple but deep short film made by Benjamin Eck. This short deals with a small group of Stormtroopers who have a short time by themselves inside and Imperial Walker just before they are sent into battle. This gives viewers an unconventional view on a Stormtrooper since it gives the feel of a war drama and has some emotional tugs.

In explaining what drove him to make this short, Eck says that everything started with a deep love of Star Wars. His friend recently joined the 501st legion as a Stormtrooper and he found it incredible to see him in armor for the first time. Holding the Stromtrooper helmet in his own hands felt very unreal and when he put it on, he realized that there are actual people beneath the white suits. Growing up in a military household, he has always had a deep respect for men and women in the service. So, these two ideas, military service and Star Wars, were married in his mind and led him to produce this awesome masterpiece.

Nerdist reports that everyone knows right away that the three Stormtroopers seen in the video are expendable, which makes their conversation more meaningful and deeper. Although such is already obvious, they are fighting for different reasons: one for approval from his friends, another because he likes the armor, and one to avenge his brother's death. In a short span of three and a half minutes, Eck is able to show what a lot of Star Wars viewers might have missed. There is much more to individual characters in Star Wars and not all that is interesting revolved around Sith Lords, Rebels and Jedi Knights.
