Dead Space 3's Launch Trailer is Cocked, Locked, and Ready to Rock

Odd combinations sometimes make for an intoxicating delicacy. Peanut butter and bacon, blue cheese and honey, the list goes on and on. I'm not sure whether Phil Collins and Dead Space work on the same levels, but Visceral and EA decided to give it a go anyway.

The new launch trailer for Dead Space 3 shows a no doubt very cold, longtime protagonist Isaac Clarke, trudging his way through the game's new setting, the frozen planet of Tau Volantis. Making his way across the icy tundra, Clarke is assaulted by memories of past adventures, slaughtering and disembowling necromorphs aboard long abandoned spaceships, coupled with visions of the battles to come, all before showing fans that cold ain't now thing, taking off is protective mask to get a better look at the planet's massive marker.

Whereas Clarke may have never truly been alone in past games, a voice forever echoing in his mask telling Clarke where to go and what to do, this is the first game that lets players game with a friend, with Dead Space 3's drop-in drop-out gameplay. During single play, Dead Space newcomer John Carver will act as a guide to Clarke. But during co-op, the two will work together to fight, heal, and solve puzzles.

As the trailer alludes, Xbox 360 players have the option of using voice control, courtesy of Kinect. Even potty mouths won't be left out of the action.

Despite the new, more open environement seen in the trailer, fans can still expect plenty of clasutraphobia, and pants peeing moments of terror, just as they can expect new monsters, weapons, and more. In addition to necromorphs new and old, Clarke and Carver will take down human enemies, both from EarthGov, and Dead Space's interpretation of Scientology, Unitology. It's been a criticized move since it was announced, but it will add ranged combat to the game, offering a change of pace from gameplay of the last two titles.

In the event that you may be unaware of the events leading up to the latest installment for this franchise, no worries. Visceral and EA threw together a video you can watch here to get caught up, so you'll be ready when Dead Space 3 rolls around next week.

Dead Space 3 will be available in the US for Windows PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 on Feb. 5, and in Europe Feb. 8.
