WWE is no stranger to completely obliterating its rival companies either by beating them in the ratings or buying them out. Back in 2001, WWE purchased then biggest rival WCW due to several financial problems faced by the now defunct wrestling promotion.
Fast forward to 2016 and we are now hearing news everywhere that history tends to repeat itself as WWE is planning to buy TNA Wrestling. New York Post has reported during their interview with Smashing Pumpkins frontman and TNA Wrestling senior producer Billy Corgan is planning to be a majority stakeholder for the company.
He also stated that he is not the only one interested with TNA Wrestling, revealing that there's still "a lot of people at the table." Billy Corgan was referring to wrestling rivals WWE and "Ring of Honor" owner Sinclair Broadcast Group. The report has also states that the estimated buyout price would be $40 million.
ESPN also interviewed Billy Corgan about the current state of TNA Wrestling and what are his future plans in buying the company. The report stated that "Much of Corgan's plans are dependent upon whether he ends up purchasing the company, which he calls a "very complicated situation" with many moving parts. He has secured the resources to do so, he says, and hopes to have a resolution in the next three weeks as a signal to talent regarding the company's true direction."
