Maggie Smith, who took on the role of Lady Violet in "Downton Abbey" was reportedly one of the reasons why the series ended by refusing to continue. However, fans of Maggie Smith debunked those reports saying that if Maggie wanted to stop working, the series can simply kill her character and continue.
Aside from a possible "Dowtnon Abbey" spinoff, there are also reports saying that a "Downton Abbey" movie adaptation is in the works. "Downton Abbey" actor, Brendan Coyle, reportedly confirmed his participation in the said movie. As of writing, the only reports pointing to a "Downton Abbey" movie says that production will begin in 2017.
