Konami Considering HD Release For Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate

Konami may release an HD version of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate on home consoles, according to the publisher.

Speaking with CVG, Konami UK chief Dave Cox revealed that Mirror of Fate developer MercurySteam has actually been building the backbone of an HD version for the Nintendo 3DS spinoff as they made the game. "At MercurySteam we have an HD version of the game sitting there in a computer somewhere," says Cox.  As it turns out, the studio actually designed the HD version of the console first, shrinking the game down for the 3DS after creating hi-res textures, polygonal models, and levels. Cox said Konami would consider releasing the HD version of the game on other platforms, should the initial 3DS release prove successful.

Cox also cited their commitment to Nintendo and the 3DS platform as a reason for holding off or possibly not following through on an HD remake. "We want as many people to play it as possible," says Cox. "Obviously we have an exclusivity deal with Nintendo right now though and they've been very supportive of the product."

Aside from having the longest, most convoluded name ever, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate is a Nintendo 3DS spin-off whose plot will fill the gap between Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and its upcoming sequel. Mirror of Fate returns to the series' classic "Metroid-vania" roots, mixing in modern 3D and action elements with the series' focus on exploration and platforming.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate will hit stores March 8th. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 is expected to launch in 2013.
