NBA 2016 Latest News & Update: Philadelphia 76ers Number One Pick Ben Simmons Out For The Rest Of The Season?

The basketball gods just won't give Philly a break as another unlucky event hit the ball club. Top pick Ben Simmons is down due to a fractured foot. Bob Cooney of The Daily News announced the incident in twitter that the prized rookie rolled his ankle during practice.

Ben Simmons already took MRI and X-ray tests earlier today, as reviewed by Philadelphia's head physician Christopher Dodson and chief medical officer Jonathan Glashow. Test results are pointing to a fractured fifth metatarsal bone and as of the moment, there is no clear timetable yet for his recovery and return.

Can The Philadelphia 76ers Ever Catch A Break?

In the past four years, all of their top drafted rookies needed to sit out either most of the NBA season or eventually miss all of it due to injuries. Nerlens Noel, the 6th overall pick of the 2013 NBA Draft needed to sit out for a whole year to recover from a very serious ACL injury.

Joel Embiid, the 2014 NBA Draft's 3rd overall pick again missed not only his first season in the NBA but the following season as well. Due to his surgically repaired navicular bone on his foot healing much slower than was anticipated.

Another big man in Jahlil Okafor didn't went off the hook. The talented center out of Duke missed most of the second half of last year's season due to a meniscus tear due to a collision with teammate Isaiah Canaan.

It seems like the Philadelphia 76ers need to lengthen their patience a bit longer to turn things around for their franchise. Ben Simmons is considered as the gem that will turn things around for the franchise who just had a dismal season tallying a win-loss record of 10-72.
