"Overwatch" Open Grand Final gave away the largest prize in the shooter game's new competitive history. The European eSports team Misfits reportedly took a huge amount of $100,000 payday. According to reports, the team brought aboard a couple of fill-in players three weeks prior the big event and went against the undefeated EnVyUs since Gamescom in August, yet still won, 3-1.
The "Overwatch" Open Grand Finalists EnVyUs and Misfits reportedly split the victories over the first two maps. However, Misfits bagged the title following a strong performance on the fourth map called Lijang Tower, which was headed by a team member named Soon.
"Overwatch" Open Grand Final match featuring Misfits and EnVyUs was reportedly held in the ELeague arena at the Turner Studio in Atlanta. The event was also televised over TBS and Twitch. Moreover, an archived stream of the game match's final map may also be viewed, Polygon reported.
In addition to this, the "Overwatch" Open Grand Final has given a total of $300,000 prize pool to about 12 teams, which makes the event the largest ever competition of the game to date.
Meanwhile, streaming site Twitch just announced in a keynote for TwitchCon event held in San Diego that "Overwatch" has been attracted more number of viewers compared to any other game that was released this year. With that, the game has been considered as the year's most popular release on the site.
"Overwatch" spot according to reports does not come as a big surprise, given the fact that the team-based shooter game for Xbox One, PS4 and the PC had more than 15 million players already by August, three months prior its release. The other games on the list includes "Destiny: Rise of Iron", "World of Warcraft: Legion", "Clash Royale" and "Stardew Valley," Venture Beat reported.
