'Tekken 7' Release Date, News & Update: Game is Coming to Consoles but Cross Platform Gameplay is Not Possible?
"Tekken 7" is finally making its way to game consoles after decades of being an arcade game. In 2015, Bandai Namco released a limited arcade version in Japan and in July 2016, they launched the updated arcade version entitled "Tekken 7: Fated Retribution."
The updated version introduced many new features in "Tekken 7" including additional items, new costumes, stages and characters like Akuma, Kazumi, Claudio, Shaheen, Gigas, Katarina and Lucky Chloe. Now, this version is the same one that will be introduced to PS4, Xbox One and PC/Microsoft Windows. The target date of its release is early 2017.
However, it was revealed that that although "Tekken 7" is on popular gaming consoles now, cross platform will not be applicable to the game. This option allows players to play against each other even if they are using different gaming platforms - consoles and PC.
Game director Katsuhiro Harada explained that they are not supporting the cross platform gameplay due to security reasons. He also used his social media to let fans know why Bandai Namco cannot accommodate the the cross platform option.
"It's not a matter of the technology but first-party company policies and potential security risks,' Harada wrote on his Twitter. He added that there are also gamers who use PC that tend to cheat and this is another reason that is stopping them from allowing the cross platform play in "Tekken 7."
Bandai Namco already confirmed the launching of "Tekken 7" in consoles and PC in 2017. With the upcoming ninth installment, it is yet to see if a new set of DLCs will also be release for the game since the previous updates were for the arcade version.
Finally, as mentioned on Tekken Gamer, "Tekken 7" may also add Lei Wulong in the roster of new fighters. Since fans have been clamoring to include him in the list, Harada said that he and his team will definitely consider his addition to the game.
