Tony Stark's story isn't quite over yet - at least according to millions of his fans who have been clamoring for the cocky, billionaire philanthropist to return for another round of "Iron Man" movie. Marvel Studios has already made the lineup of superhero flicks that will hit theaters in the coming years and somehow a new "Iron Man" movie is absent from the list. However, some people believe that the man in the iron suit will return with a standalone movie soon. The studio has teased three movies that are yet to be titled coming in 2020 and speculation is rife that "Iron Man 4" is one of them.
Whether or not Robert Downey, Jr. will return in "Iron Man 4" remains to be seen as earlier reports have been contradicting. At one point, the "The Judge" actor has made it clear that there will be no fourth installment of the box office hit franchise. But more recent reports have mentioned that Downey, Jr. will indeed return for another "Iron Man" movie and that this could be part of Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 4. MCU is currently on Phase 3, which kicked off with "Captain America: Civil War" and will end with a sequel to "The Avengers: Infinity War" in 2019.
Meanwhile, other rumors suggest that "Iron Man 4" won't ever happen as Tony Stark will die in one of the upcoming Marvel movies. There were reports stating Stark will make his last appearance in "Spider-Man Homecoming," while others suggest that his story will end in "The Avengers: Infinity War." Moreover, reports about Tony Stark ending his reign as the man in the iron suit and appointing his successor, Riri Williams, are also making the rounds.
For now, there aren't any clear updates on the release of "Iron Man 4." There's still a possibility that the fourth movie will be part of MCU Phase 4 and Downey, Jr. returning to reprise his role. As for Riri Williams, it would be exciting to see her character develop in the big screens but not all would be pleased as Downey Jr. and his iconic character are considered irreplaceable.
