‘World of Warcraft’ Latest News & Update: Game Director Steps Down & Moves To Other Project In Blizzard

"World of Warcraft" game director Tom Chilton announced that he is going to step down from his position at MMO after more than a decade. In a forum post, Chilton said that he will be leaving "World of Warcraft" and will be working at Blizzard on an unknown project.

Tom Chilton Will Leave 'World of Warcraft'

After releasing the add-on "Legion" for the "World of Warcraft" game, Tom Chilton announced his retirement from MMO in a forum post. Replacing his position as director will be Ion Hazzikostas, who joined Blizzard in 2008, Polygon reported.

Hazzikostas reportedly worked his way up from being an encounter designer into an assistant game director. Now, Hazzikostas finally reached the game director position at Blizzard.

"My personal journey working on WoW as Game Director is at an end, but my journey with Blizzard isn't," the former "World of Warcraft" director Tom Chilton wrote. "I'll still be here, but will be focusing on another project within the company."

The project is not yet disclosed as of publication. Chilton has been with the "World of Warcraft" for more than a decade. He first joined Blizzard as a game designer in 2004 for the MMO after working on Ultima Online. In 2010, Chilton rose to game director with the launch of "Cataclysm" expansion.

The New Project

When asked for further details about the other project Tom Chilton is working on, Blizzard said that the game is one of the six supported games it has released. However, no further details were offered. The representative said that everything that is needed to share is already in Chilton's post. Chilton's parting gift came in the form of the reception "Legion" expansion pack.

Previously, Blizzard announced a new MMO following the "World of Warcraft" game. The game had a working title called "Titan." However, the game was canceled in 2014 but some parts of it were used to develop the popular first-person shoot er game "Overwatch."
