‘Final Fantasy 7 Remake’ Release Date, News & Update: Battle System Undergoes Major Change; Tetsuya Nomura Explains More on New Battle System

"Final Fantasy 7 Remake" has incorporated changes to some elements of the original game and one of them is the battle system. Square Enix previously confirmed through trailers that there will be major changes to the battle system in that fans can't expect the Active-Time Battle (ATB) system. Instead, the remake will introduce more of an action style gameplay. Recently, in an interview with Dengeki PlayStation via KH13, game director Tetsuya Nomura gave more details about this change in the battle system.

Nomura acknowledged that fans want "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" to have the same ATB system from the original game, but Square Enix will need to push through with a gameplay that's packed with action. Nomura also assured fans that there are other battle systems that are worthwhile so those who are not so keen on action-style battles won't have to enjoy the game less. On the other hand, the game director also explained that the new action-style gameplay will be different than what most players have come to be familiar with, yet it's still something that they can enjoy.

It might be hard for fans to imagine what "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" will be like without the familiar ATB combat style, but pretty soon, Nomura and the team will showcase the mechanics of the battle system once he makes another update. "The next time I release information about [the Remake], I think that I'll definitely have to explain the specifics of what the battle system has become to the players. I think right now that nobody is really able to imagine a concrete battle, so I'm in the middle of coming up with steps that I can show and explain to people, 'It's this kind of battle,'" he said.

Meanwhile, the 20th anniversary of "Final Fantasy 7" happens next year, and fans can expect more updates about "Final Fantasy 7 Remake" from Nomura by that time, TweakTown reported. Also, the release date for the game is yet to be announced, so it's unlikely that the game will launch anytime this year. Stay tuned to GamenGuide for more updates.
