With the upcoming "Vampire Diaries" series finale, avid Steroline fans have been hoping for a happy ending for the said couple. In a recent interview, Paul Wesley shared some interesting details about Stefan Salvatore and his relationship with Caroline Forbes.

"Vampire Diaries" Season 8 is set to feature an exciting and interesting storyline that involves a mysterious villain that has taken hold of Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Enzo (Michael Malarkey). Damon's brother Stefan, portrayed by Wesley, will have his hands full trying to deal with the situation, as well as his relationship with Caroline (Candice King).

In an interview with TVLine, Wesley commented on Stefan's "awkward" relationship with Caroline given her twin children with Alaric (Matt Davis). Despite the character's feeling for Caroline, Stefan may have a hard time choosing between his beloved and his brother.

The couple, dubbed as Steroline, may even have a chance for a happy ending given their long history together. Wesley highlighted how the two characters' started their relationship strong before it turned dark. However, the actor shared that he is also open to a different ending provided it would fit the story in an "organic" way.

Wesley also shared his thoughts on Elena's (Nina Dobrev) speculated appearance in "Vampire Diaries" Season 8. Having Dobrev reprise her role in the series' upcoming finale would be a welcome change, although the actress has yet to confirm her participation in the project.

Meanwhile, Wesley hinted of his character's potential transformation as a darker Stefan in the upcoming Season 8. In an interview with E!News, the actor made mention of a scene where a mysterious villain may be successful in convincing Stefan to become evil along with his brother Damon.

At this time, it is still unclear if the said villain is a person or an evil force trapped inside an item. Wesley declined to share other details about the new season's big bad villain.

"Vampire Diaries" Season 8 will premiere on Oct. 21 on The CW. Watch the trailer below:
