Nintendo NX Release Date, Features and Updates: Nintendo to Reveal Console Thursday; Specs and What We Know So Far

Nintendo is unveiling another big console of the company on Thursday, the Nintendo NX. Fans have long waited for this day to find out important details on the new offering.

The electronics company announced that its big reveal will happen at 7 a.m. PT/ 10 a.m. ET on Thursday. Nintendo is expected to come up with a "trailer" which will be put up on the website but will only present teasers and not full information on what to expect from the console.

Nintendo's announcement

"Be among the first to discover #NX. Watch the Preview Trailer at 7am PT/10am ET!," Nintendo mentioned in a tweet. The console has been highly anticipated by Nintendo fans since last year.

The coming of NX was first made known last March 2015 but there were very few details that came out. Gamers are still wondering if it will be a home console or a handheld device. Nintendo officially termed it as a "home system" but did not go into the details. On the other hand, earlier reports tagged it as a portable device but the company has not confirmed any of these rumors.

NX's possible features and specs

The only major report about the Nintento NX came out last July dubbing the NX as a smart system for the home which connects to the television when a game wants to play. It explained that the console will use cartridges to store its media content but there will be digital downloads available for the gamers.

Having cartridge-based games for the NX is a change for Nintendo which only had digital downloads and discs for its games. However, some sources of the report claimed that there could be no backwards compatibility for the Nintendo NX. A new operating system is also expected for the upcoming console but gaming enthusiasts do not buy reports that it will run on Android.
