Bob Dylan's website mentioned his Nobel Prize, but it was removed later. Written on his website that appeared on the page for "The Lyrics: 1961 - 2012" was "winner of the Nobel prize in literature". Per Wastberg, a Swedish writer and academy member said, "It's impolite and arrogant" in an interview with SVT public television. He also added that it is an "unprecedented" situation and said, "He is who he is".

The Swedish Academy will hold its annual awarding of the Nobel Prize winners in Stockholm, Sweden on Dec. 10, 2016 in a formal dinner for the said event. However, "the ceremony marking Dylan's career will go ahead as planned," Mr. Wastberg added. Wastberg also told Sweden's Dagens Nyheter newspaper in an interview that they are aware that he [Bob Dylan] can be difficult and that he does not like appearances when he stands alone on the stage.

A member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, Anders Barany, said that the award for Nobel Prize in Physics for Albert Einstein in 1921 also went unacknowledged. Another awardee, French author and philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre, also rejected the Nobel Prize in 1964. Doris Lessing was also unimpressed of the Nobel Prize that she was awarded in 2007. Yet, she still attended the banquet later that year.
