'Borderlands 2' DLC: 'Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack' Raises Level Cap

"Borderlands 2" players asked for more content and Gearbox has answered. The developer is raising the level cap to 61 and adding a third playthrough with amped up difficulty and new weapons called "Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode." Don't get too excited though, because some of it is coming at a price.

Players can purchase the DLC "Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack" pack for $4.99 on Playstation 3 and PC or 400 Microsoft Points on Xbox 360 on April 2, which includes 11 new character levels, each of which do add a new skill point, and the opportunity to find new "Ancient" E-Tech relics and rare Pearlescent-grade weapons in the new "Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode," which comes free with the patch on the same day. The DLC pack is included in the Season Pass.

Check out details for the new "Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode" over on the Gearbox forums. This third playthrough forgoes tutorial missions and allows players to reset their completed missions at anytime, never giving them a reason to stop playing. Players must unlock "Ultimate Vault Hunter Mode" by completing "True Hunter Mode" and getting their character to level 50. Additionally, Legendary Loot Midgets will be running around with higher-grade weapons drops upon death.

For free, alongside the new playthrough, comes other patched upgrades, offering new ways to use that Eridium you've been storing away. More backpack and bank storage slots, plus additional ammo capacity upgrades, should make that purple stuff a little more useful in the late game. Full details on the patch are here.

None of these additions include the new playable character, Krieg the Psycho, which is set for release sometime in May.
