‘Grand Theft Auto 6’ Release Date, News & Update: Game To Launch in 2020? Release Date Pushed Back Because of VR Capability?

Sad news for many fans - "Grand Theft Auto 6" will reportedly launch in 2020 instead of the anticipated earlier date. The inclusion of VR (virtual reality) capability is pointed as the main reason the game is pushed back to 2020. Will "Grand Theft Auto 6" come in virtual reality mode in 2020? Is the release date too far out?

'Grand Theft Auto 6' VR Compatibility

"Grand Theft Auto 6" is initially expected to roll out in 2018, according to Neurogadget. However, new reports have surfaced that the highly successful franchise will push back "Grand Theft Auto 6" to 2020.

If rumors are true, then Rockstar Games will include VR capability into the new title. However, this could Rockstar a massive fortune given that "Grand Theft Auto 5" cost around $265 million.

The game is said to be one of the most expensive game ever developed. While it cost a lot to develop "Grand Theft Auto 5," Rockstar was able to redeem the cost on its first day, earning them $800 million and hitting the billion-mark on its third day.

Given the wide success the last title offered them, it should come as no-surprise that there's tremendous pressure on "Grand Theft Auto 6." If speculations are correct, then the new title would need around $350 million to develop the game.

Tremendous Success Stops 'Grand Theft Auto 6?'

While the main reason for "Grand Theft Auto 6" delay was mostly blamed for its VR capability - in order to surpass "Grand Theft Auto 5" -- Fraghero shed a different view on the delay. Reports suggest that with the tremendous success of "Grand Theft Auto Online," Rockstar Games had a hard time surpassing the game. This could only be the most sensible reason for delaying "Grand Theft Auto 6."

"Grand Theft Auto 5" stand alone online mode had offered the title immense revenues, which could work against "Grand Theft Auto 6." Three years have passed since "GTA 5" was released and there's no word yet about "Grand Theft Auto 6."

To date, "GTA 5" has earned more than $700 million in sales. Hence, "Grand Theft Auto 6" is now expected to launch in 2020.
