'NBA 2K17' News and Updates: Tournaments Feature Coming to PS4 with Sony Partnership

"NBA 2K17" will soon have a "Tournaments" feature on the PlayStation 4. Sony recently revealed its partnership with ESL, an eSports company, in launching this new feature.

The "Tournaments" option will enable players to join other groups of ballers in a chosen game. The feature will reportedly run from October 27 to November 26 with Major Cup stages happening on Saturdays, said PlayStation brand marketing vice president John Koller.

Prizes for winners

"Top 3 winners of the NBA 2K17 Major Tournament will receive a prize pack that includes items such as a DualShock 4 controller and PlayStation gear," he added. The tournament can be found on the "Events" tab on PS4's game menu.

Those who want to join the tournament should get a copy of the "NBA 2K17", an ESL account and an active PlayStation Plus membership. Players who have not yet registered an ESL account will be properly guided when they register on the game.

Automatic notifications

When they are already on the system, the PlayStation 4 will give them reminders on the schedule of matches so they can immediately join games if they want. Players will be able to view the complete details of these matches on the PS4 menu.

As for the types of tournaments, 1 vs 1 games will initially be offered for the upcoming feature. Sony, however, promises to come up with new modes in the coming months. ESL Technology managing director Marcel Menge said their main vision to provide players an avenue where they can just focus on playing the games.

Better gaming experience

Menge explained that Sony is a perfect partner for them to improve the gaming experience of players in different parts of the globe. The ESL executive added that they are hoping the gaming community will enjoy this partnership and what they have in store fro "NBA 2K17."
