Microsoft has also uncovered its first all-in-one desktop, the Surface Studio which features the thinnest LCD touchscreen ever with a dial controller that can be placed on the display directly or used at its side. An expert said that the move helps consumers to be prepared for a more essential augmented reality features.

Microsoft also said that the display is "best in class" with 192 pixel-per-inch resolution and is sold with a wireless mouse, keyboard and stylus. Once it goes on sale in the US on Dec. 15, it will cost between $2,999 and $4,199 (£2,452 and £3,433).

The 3D Paint application was demonstrated which exhibits how a stylus can be used to draw 2D-graphics. Photographic elements can be added to the design and parts can be animated. Additionally, a smartphone app is being developed to produce 3D models of real-world objects by waving the handset around the desired item.

"3D also resonates with consumers. Focusing on creating content and sharing that content is a good way to have them start to think about mixed-reality, preparing them for the HoloLens headset," she also added. Versions of the HoloLens are now on sale that costs between £2,719 and £4,529.
