Tales of Xillia's North American Release Date Confirmed, Coming To PlayStation 3

Namco Bandai finally confirms the release date for the international version of Japanese RPG "Tales of Xillia" will be Aug. 6. Hideo Baba, producer of the franchise, announced that "Tales of Xillia" will come to PlayStation 3 owners in North America on Aug. 6. However, there's still no date for the European release.

He said the company does not plan to release any of the Tales games on the PlayStation Vita in the near future as he feels PS Vita is doing relatively poorly in North America. There are two major Tales games released on PS Vita in Japan; "Tales of Innocence R" and "Tales of Hearts R." This revelation contradicts his earlier statement this will be a 'Tales-filled year' for all markets. Baba refused to elaborate on this; however, he said that the gaming world can look forward to more announcements.

The Japanese role-playing game originally launched in its home country back in Sept. 2011 and has a female protagonist. "It's something that we're slowly seeing a change in," Baba says in an interview with Kotaku. "But I think the majority of video game players are ultimately male. With Tales, the female audience has actually increased quite a bit. In response to this growing female fan base, we wanted to make a character they could resonate with. We wanted them to feel like, 'Oh, I want to be this character.' We made sure that she came across as a very strong female."

Namco Bandai does not have any plans to make any Tales games for the Wii U in the near future, Baba says.
