iPad 5 Production To Begin In July-August [RUMOR]

Contrary to earlier rumors about the advent of the much-anticipated iPad 5, a fresh report suggests Apple will begin production of its next-generation tablet in July-August 2013.

The timeline reportedly comes from Taiwan-based supply chain makers. This information apparently squashes earlier speculations that the iPad 5 will launch as early as April. "Volume production of the fifth-generation 9.7-inch iPad will kick off in July-August 2013, according to sources with Taiwan-based supply chain makers. Yield rates for key components, especially touch panels, will be a major concern for smooth production," Taipei-based DigiTimes reports.

The reports say the new iPad will be thinner and lighter than the fourth-generation tablet and will feature a slim bezel design, similar to that of the iPad mini.

Apple's flagship tablet display will be supplied by LG Display and Sharp and the touch panel assembly will be conducted by TPK. The reports add that the ITO thin film will be supplied by Nitto Denko and Teijin.

Apple traditionally launches new iPad in the first few months of the year. However, the Cupertino tech giant broke this practice last year when it unveiled two iPad models - one in March and another in November.

Gene Munster of investment research firm Piper Jaffray has predicted that Apple will release a re-designed iPad with both Retina display and iPad mini traits in a media event in March or April 2013.
