'Star Trek' TV Series Air Date, News, & Update: Showrunner Bryan Fuller Steps Down! TV Series Revival Being Pushed?

In what seems to be another setback for the highly anticipated "Star Trek" TV series reboot, Bryan Fuller is quitting as showrunner. Aaron Harberts and Gretchen Berg will serve as replacements, with Fuller still on board as the show's executive producer.

Announced a year ago for a January 2017 release, the "Star Trek" TV series is to become the first original series for the All Access streaming service by CBS. However, EW reported in September that the project will be pushed for a May 2017 release instead. With news of Fuller stepping down, the premier date is yet again questionable.

The production team is still on the prowl for a female lead and no other cast members have been announced. The "Star Trek" TV series is scheduled to commence production next month, as originally planned. The team is yet to announce new updates given the impending issue.

As stated on a report by Variety magazine, there has been tension between CBS Television and Bryan Fuller. Fuller is currently in between two other projects: NBC's "Amazing Stories" and Starz' "American Gods." Both projects consume most of his time but Fuller is still adamant in ensuring that the "Star Trek" TV series be at par with sci-fi giant, "Star Wars", aesthetics-wise. Another issue in question is the budget for the whole production.

Fuller has shepherded the "Star Trek" TV series for months -- showing the outline sketch to the press in August. Previously, the acclaimed writer and producer worked on "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" and "Star Trek Voyager."

Still showing his unparalleled passion for the "Star Trek" TV series franchise, Fuller has been supportive of Harberts and Berg taking over as showrunners. "Riker spent 7 years of TNG unready for Capitancy," he tweeted.

Riker spent 7 years of TNG unready for Captaincy, @GretchenJBerg @AaronHarberts are ready. Thrilled to see them in command of the Bridge.
