Netflix’s ‘The Punisher’ Release Date, Cast, Spoilers, News & Update: 2017 Release Confirmed; New Set of Actors Announced; Plot Details Revealed

Netflix is slowly working toward the release of "The Defenders" by releasing standalone series of the four superheroes in the group. "Luke Cage," starring Mike Colter, recently aired its episodes and soon, it's "Iron Fist's" turn to save NYC. But more than "The Defenders," fans are also looking forward to the anti-hero Frank Castle in his standalone series, "The Punisher."

Former "The Walking Dead" star Jon Bernthal first stepped into the role of Frank Castle in "Daredevil" season 2. Bernthal's portrayal of the ruthless vigilante was so impressive that it's only right that he landed a role for a standalone series. It was recently confirmed by Marvel that the series will air in 2017, but a specific date has yet to be confirmed. This also means that Netflix will release three Marvel-based shows in that year - "The Punisher," "Iron Fist," and "The Defenders."

According to SlashFilm, "The Punisher" should be out after "Iron Fist." The Finn Jones-starred series will premiere on Mar. 17, 2017 so Jon Bernthal and his Frank Castle will start terrorizing villains sometime after that but before "The Defenders" airs. Marvel has also announced actors who will be on board for the first season of "The Punisher."

Daniel Webber was confirmed to play Lewis Walcott and Jason R. Moore will play Frank Castle's friend, Curtis Hoyle. Paul Schulze is also on board to play CIA member Rawlins, and so is Jaime Ray Newman, who will portray Sarah Lieberman, wife of Micro (Ebon Moss-Bachrach). Lastly, Michael Nathanson joins the cast to play Homeland agent Sam Stein. Apart from these new characters, it was previously confirmed that "Daredevil's" Deborah Ann Woll, who plays Karen Page, will also reprise her role in "The Punisher."

Marvel has also announced that Ben Barnes will play the role of Billy Russo described as Frank's best friend when they were still serving in the Special Forces. In the comics, though, Billy Russo is Jigsaw, Frank's archnemesis. Could this mean that Barnes will first play the good guy then transitions to a villain that will come face to face with "The Punisher?" Stay tuned to GamenGuide to find out more.
