'Pokemon GO' Release Date, News & Update: Niantic to Hold Christmas Event? Studio Looking to Innovate with More 'Direct Engagement' Between Players!

If there is a second coming, this is it for "Pokemon GO" -- this year's biggest game to arrive on mobile. The augmented reality game from Niantic experienced a massive surge in profit over the weekend following its Halloween event and update that let gamers find spooky Pokemon and earn more Candy.

In fact, Forbes reports that the event boosted "Pokemon GO" back up to the top of the Highest Grossing app charts following a decline in the recent weeks. According to analytics, the company is experiencing as much as 133% increase in revenue thanks to the Halloween event. Does this mean a Christmas event is in store for fans and gamers?

It's isn't highly unlikely that Niantic would opt to do away with a Christmas event, given that they experienced massive success with last weekend's Halloween event. In fact, "Pokemon GO" should definitely hold more events like this, seeing that the general interest surrounding the game has died down since its debut in July.

According to TechCrunch, it's very interesting to see how the Halloween event figured in terms of sales and revenue, as Niantic "didn’t even have to add any new content to the game to prompt the boost in player attention and spending." All they did, really, was to adjust certain rewards that players would achieve when hunting for Pokemon. "Pokemon GO" fans are now hoping that Niantic would hold a Christmas event soon.

Meanwhile, The Verge recently spoke to "Pokemon GO" designer Dennis Hwang, who has some big dreams for the game that caught the world by storm. He admitted that he has a few ideas up his sleeve to innovate with more "direct engagement" between players. He said that it makes him sad to see people hunched over their mobile phones and not interacting with each other while playing "Pokemon GO."

Hwang admitted that they would like to improve on that as a whole, in order to make the "Pokemon GO" experience even more meaningful. Make sure to check back for the latest on "Pokemon GO" and comment below what you'd like to see in the Christmas event.
