‘Fish Out Of Water’ For iOS: Fun Yes, Replay Value No [REVIEW]

Halfbrick Studios made the highly popular Fruit Ninja and Jetpack Joyride. While those games offer hours of addictive gameplay and replayabilty, Fish Out Of Water, their latest iOS title, doesn’t although the gameplay is fun.

Fish Out Of Water is about skipping three different fish as far as possible across a body of water. You will be looking to impress the five different crab judges who score you on various criteria.

One of the best things about the game is that the in-game weather effects change every hour and affects the elements in play randomly. Waves make it easier for the player to skip over it, and jellyfish (for example) can be bounced off them to get greater heights.

Each fish plays differently. Finlay the dolphin, for example, can jump out of the water and dive back down with each dive being counted as a skip. The challenge of the game is mastering the way each fish works and then using the right ones in the right circumstance to get the highest score.

In app purchases can be made with currency that is either earned through playing or paid for. Various power-ups are for sale but the game can played without them.

Sadly, the replay value seen in Halfbrick's previous games is missing from this one. Once you finish the game, you won’t be inclined to start it all over again. It’s one of those titles that only require one-time play, and that’s it.

Fish Out Of Water is no Jetpack Joyride or Fruit Ninja. And that's a shame.
