'Dragon Quest 8' Features, Gameplay, News & Update: Title Gets New Release Date For Nintendo 3DS! Find Out More Details Here!

JRPG fans are in for a treat with this one. After a 2015 announcement and delaying what should've been a 2016 release, Nintendo has confirmed that the Nintendo 3DS remake of "Dragon Quest 8" is coming out on January 20, 2017.

GameSpot confirms the news surrounding the heavily-awaited fully 3D JRPG remake, "Dragon Quest 8." It first came out for the PlayStation 2 in 2002 and one of the best games in Square Enix's "Dragon Quest" franchise.

According to a press release from Nintendo via NeoGAF, "Dragon Quest 8" is updated for modern gaming sensibilities, with emulator-like quicksave and speed-up features. Quicksave is exactly what it says on the label, allowing the player to save wherever and quickly continue from there. Speed-up, on the other hand, lets you fast-forward through segments that you may have already seen before, or just think are too slow.

Another interesting feature they're putting on "Dragon Quest 8" is a camera mode. It's literally taking photos within the game and putting stickers and filters on them, like a Snapchat for the JRPG. There's a non-player character in the game named Cameron Obscura, who will give players item rewards for taking photos of certain things, such as enemy minions or other characters.

The Nintendo 3DS remake of "Dragon Quest 8" as well as "Dragon Quest 7" was announced in November 2015, originally for release this year. "Dragon Quest 8" was the first fully 3D game in the franchise, but still using cel-shaded textures, and it makes sense that the game would be remade for the Nintendo 3DS.

However, "Dragon Quest 7" came out on time and "Dragon Quest 8" ended up being delayed in the US; although the Japanese version is already available. Square Enix has said that more "Dragon Quest" remakes would come out if Koei collaboration "Dragon Quest Heroes," which came out last year, sold well.
