‘Overwatch’ Latest News & Update: Character Sombra Introduced at BlizzCon 2016 with New Maps and Arcade Mode

Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime revealed several new twists in popular shooter "Overwatch" that will include new maps and Arcade mode which presents all-new challenges plus new character Sombra.

"Overwatch" took the center stage in the opener of BlizzCon 2016 at Aneheim Convention Center in California with these two major developments. Further, Morhaime unveiled brand new character Sombra. This hero is going to grace the new locations Eco Point: Antarctica and Oasis. Though not readily available during BlizzCon opener, players can soon roam these maps through public test realm servers which will open soon.

What players can expect from these new "Overwatch" pack are unexplored maps, never-before seen games and unique gameplay. Power Up Gaming reported that Morhaime taunts that there are variations in the new Arcade match ups as well. Apart from one-on-one combat, there will be three-against-three setup for added mayhem. The best part - players need not wait too long because these are going to be unleashed starting next week.

Ok, since a new character Sombra was mentioned, it is inevitable to take a peek inside this new "Overwatch" hero. Her roots can be traced from grim Omnic Crisis that left her orphaned. Blizzard admits that Sombra is not a total newbie in "Overwatch" roster. In fact, some of her original purported skills were borrowed by other heroes who were earlier to be introduced.

However late, "Overwatch" designers finally decided to make unique abilities and skills for Sombra, Polygon said. These include hacking ability that can hinder cybernetically-enhanced opponents, limited invisibility, teleportation and peeking into enemies' health status. Although Sombra was teased as a hooded hero based on her silhouette printed on in-game news flyers in Dorado level, she will sport a different skin upon release.

As mentioned, some of her original traits were incorporated into other "Overwatch" characters so expect these to be ditched. For example, Genji and Hanzo benefited from her concept when they received speed and stealth plus projectiles. These were originally Sombra's skills.
