'Half-Life 3' Release Date, News & Update: VR Support Hinted For 20th Anniversary? HTC To Make Possible?
"Half-Life 3" has been in the news again despite an almost decade long wait. However, Valve has kept mum all these years. The company's recent collaboration with a VR group is believed to have something in store for the installment which is slated to celebrate its 20th year anniversary soon.
"Half-Life 3" is believed to be a collection of three episodes of short games. It is said that the two games have already been launched in "Half-Life 2" and its expansions. Valve developer Gabe Newell could be remembered referring to Episodes One to Three as "Half-Life 3" itself, Eurogamer reported.
Newell also added that after the sixth year of waiting for "Half-Life 2", the company did not want players to go through the same experience. Hence, "Half-Life 3" was to span three smaller episodes with higher frequency. Furthermore, "Half-Life 2: Episode One" was later released two years after its 2004 debut.
The "Half-Life 3" second episode reportedly arrived in 2007. The last and final episode is yet to be revealed. However, while "Half-Life 2" had a six-year wait and "Half-Life 3" a nine-year wait, rumor has it that Valve is preparing a full-size "Half-Life 3" game instead of Episode Three.
A "Half-Life 3" leak was seen in 2012 with concept art images allegedly for Episode Three. However, for the past few years, it is said that the market for "Half-Life 3" has decreased. Moreover, Valve itself has been noted to lack interest at publishing the game as well.
Meanwhile, HTC, the company known to work on Virtual Reality is said to be working with Valve for "Half Life." It is yet to be announced if VR will be introduced to the upcoming "Half-Life 3". It is speculated that the game developers are preparing something special for the 20th year anniversary of "Half Life".
"Half-Life 3" is speculated to be still in development based on several interviews, IGN reported. It should be noted that former Valve game creator Minh Le was noted confirming that the game is still in the works. Valve has neither confirmed nor denied anything about the rumored game.
