The battle of the consoles is not yet done, as the old Sega Mega Drive, also known as the Genesis will be back in 2017. But, the production is limited and only a few can get the console.
One of the respected and oldest consoles, Sega Mega Drive, will hit the market in June 2017 to compete with high-end game consoles available. In fact, Tectoy, one of the distributors of the Mega Drive, already launched a pre-order basis for fans who want to secure a unit of the console.
Sega Mega Drive or also known as the Sega Genesis in North America is one of the hottest gaming devices in Brazil. The original console was produced and released by Sega in 1988 that sold 150,000 units per day. Sega allowed Tectoy to manufacture the Mega Drive, which will have the complete original game library and controllers just like what Sega has before.
According to Daily Dot, the new Sega Mega Drive Limited Edition has the same look as the original, but with a newly added feature of the SD card slot. It also has the original Audio/Video setup, but it lacks HDMI support. Tectoy is optimistic that HDMI is not a worry for consumers since the release will be in Brazil that most of the TV sets don't support HDMI.
The gaming console will sport the same old look especially with the controller design untouched with 3-button controller. The Sega Mega Drive will come with 22 games preloaded on its internal memory, including "Alex Kidd," "Arrow Flash," "E-Swat," "Last Battle," "Sonic the Hedgehog 3," "Shinobi 3," and "Turbo Outrun," PC Mag reported.
As of the moment, Sega Mega Drive console will be distributed by Tectoy in Brazil and is available now for pre-order, which cost 399 Brazilian real or $123.50. Also, a Japanese online retailer Welte will be selling the Genesis in Japan, which cost 21,800 yen starting June 2017. The gaming console will be sold only in Brazil and there has been no report yet if the device will be distributed in other key areas.
