Samsung Gear S3 vs Apple Watch 2: How Will the Samsung Smartwatch Look? Features, Specs and Price Details

The Samsung Gear S3 will soon be available and smartwatch fans are excited to grab a piece to explore and use. A lot of tech aficionados are curious if the new offering from Samsung can battle it out with the Apple Watch 2.

Expected to be a tough competitor of the Apple Watch 2, the Samsung Gear S3 smartwatch is thought to be armed with great specifications and features and targeted to come this month. Here is how the Samsung smartwatch is compared to the device Apple released last September:

Display and pixel resolution

In terms of display, the Samsung Gear S3 will sport a 1.3-inch Super AMOLED display with a circular dial. Its pixel resolution is at 360 x 360 and a pixel density of 278 ppi.

On the other hand, the Apple Watch 2 smartwatch boasts a rectangular shape with a 1.65-inch OLEd retina display. The watch is also thick at 11.4 millimeters and has a resolution of 390 x 312 pixels.

Hardware and features

The rotating bezel of the Samsung Gear S3 gives user the capability to control the smartwatch without touching the screen. It is also armed with other notable features like the gyroscope, accelerometer, heart-rate sensor and barometer.

Similar features can be found on the Apple Watch 2 but users still need to use an iPhone to control some of the features of the device. It also does not come with a GPS like other smartwatches in the market.

Operating system

A Tizen OS 2.3 is what powers the Samsung Gear S3 which is also compatible to devices which runs on Android 4.4 or higher. The Apple Watch 2 comes with the watchOS 3.

Release date and price details

Released last Sept. 16, the Apple Watch 3's price begins at $399. On the other hand, the Samsung Gear S3 still does not have a definite release date but could sell at $499. From the two smartwatches, which do you think is better?
