'Resident Evil 7' Release Date, News & Update: Capcom Predicts High Revenue on Opener; Plans for Nintendo Switch

Developer Capcom sets lofty expectation of 4 million copies to be sold on opening weekend for their strongest franchise "Resident Evil 7" come January 24 release as it invades PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Capcom said that the face of video games sales has changed since introduction of digital copies. Not only that it shatters the tradition of limiting sales within two years after conception, but it gives longer lifespan for staples like "Resident Evil 7." The potentials have grown to continually show good sales figures for longer duration.

According to IGN, Capcom projections might be a little off placed compared to predecessor of "Resident Evil 7." In fact, the sixth iteration launched in October of 2012 took until the end of that year to be able to sell 4.8 million copies. Even the strongest sale for "Resident Evil" franchise which is the 5th iteration only wallows on 6.5 million copies for a span of 4 years since launch. Meaning, Capcom is so confident in "Resident Evil 7" to place a blockbuster hopes in it.

Meanwhile, GameSpot reported that not only Capcom leans on heavy pre-release marketing of "Resident Evil 7" to catapult the titles into good revenue. There is similar move to the movie franchise and "Resident Evil: The Final Chapter" will invade theaters just three days after launch. The movie will sport big actors like Milla Jovovich and foreseen to be another blockbuster for the tinsel town.

It appears that the movie version is last in Capcom's deck of cards to play so "Resident Evil 7" should also play along the hype. The developer confirms that "Resident Evil: The Final Chapter" is to be the wrap up for the whole movie franchise. This means that video game series has this final chance to shatter all previous records.

Given these multiple activities leading toward "Resident Evil 7," Capcom stressed that anything is possible but a flak is far flung possibility. And oh, didn't we mention that they are also planning to carry the whole Resident Evil franchise into Nintendo Switch as well?
