Get In On The Final Marvel Heroes Open Beta This Weekend

Gazillion Entertainment's Marvel Heroes will launch on PC and Mac on June 4, 2013, but players that still haven't decided whether or not to make the investment in the game can now download and play in the title's final free open beta this weekend.

Marvel Heroes (originally known as Marvel Universe Online) allows PC and Mac gamers to play as Iron Man, Thor, Wolverine, Spider-Man, Captain America, Hulk and many more of their favorite super heroes with the ultimate goal being to stop Doctor Doom from destroying the world with the massively powerful Cosmic Cube.

"The Cosmic Cube is a device of untold power capable of changing the very fabric of reality at the whim of its possessor," says Gazillion, "Determined to succeed where the Cube's previous wielders have failed, Doom has lined up villainous allies to prevent the super-heroes from interfering."

These villains include Pyro, Blob, Elektra, Sabretooth, Viper, Venom, Shocker, Sentinel, Bullseye, the Green Goblin and many more. According to Gazillion, "Marvel Heroes is the Marvel MMO that you have been waiting for!"

From David Brevik, the creator of Diablo and Diablo 2, Marvel Heroes understandably plays a lot like the dungeon crawling action strategy title, but in a massively multiplayer online (MMO) form. Players are given the chance to team up with friends and strangers or take on the game's challenges alone in randomly generated environments that offer a different experience each time they're accessed.

The game contains a power and leveling system that's specific to each available hero, as well as customizable costumes that look to offer references to Marvel's lengthy history. Via these customizations, players will be able to collect and outfit their heroes with the best available gear as they explore many familiar locations from within the Marvel Universe. While the final game will ultimately be free to play, there are multiple purchase packages available for those looking to get a huge boost in the game.

Players interested in downloading the Marvel Heroes open beta can head to the game's page on Steam and look for the "Final Open Beta Weekend" banner to find a link to download the client. The beta will be accessible by all players for free until May 13 at 10 AM Pacific. After that, players that pre-purchase the game will also have access to the title in closed beta up until its launch.
