MMA News & Updates: Conor McGregor realizes two-title dream, demands share of UFC next

When the UFC announced that Conor McGregor would be headlining UFC 205 – the company’s first ever event in New York City – it was quickly projected as a record breaking night. The brash Irishman had his sights on cementing his place in history as the first fighter to hold two titles simultaneously. By the end of the main event – following a thorough two-round demolition job of Eddie Alvarez – he was screaming at UFC president Dana White to fetch him his second belt. By the end of the night, he suggested that the UFC’s new owners give him his share of the company.

“They have to come talk to me now,” Conor McGregor said during the post fight presser. “I mean, who owns the company now? People have shares in the company. Celebrities. Conan O’Brien owns the UFC nowadays.”

“Where’s my shares? Where’s my equity? If I’m the one bringing this in, they’ve got to talk to me, that’s what I know… I want what I deserve, what I’ve earned.”

Indeed, the featherweight and lightweight king has earned something—being mainly responsible for four out of the five biggest events in UFC history. As reported by Yahoo Sports, UFC 205 had a live gate of $17.7 million, smashing the previous record of $12.08 million set back in UFC 129. Dana White said the first New York event broke all records, including the pay-per-view record, with projections suggesting UFC 205 will go over 1.7 million buys. And Conor McGregor knows it’s all because of him.

“This is a multi-billion company. Whoever owns this whole [expletive] needs to come to me and give me my slice because that’s what I’ve earned. I’ve earned all of this,” Conor McGregor said.

After winning his rematch with Nate Diaz at UFC 202, Conor McGregor said “Sh*t was about to hit the fan.” No one quite knew what he meant back then. Holding two belts was the dream then, although it appears, having a share of the company is what he wants now.
