Virtual-reality gaming is now becoming more and more popular with VR headsets also gaining momentum as 2017 nears. Many, however, are still clueless what type of VR headset they should purchase.

The Oculus Rift and HTC Vive are two of the well-known devices using VR technology. Below is a comparison of the two headsets to help you decide which one to buy:

Features and Specs

Both the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive have 2160 x 1200 OLED displays. They also come with a resolution of 1080 x 1200 for every eye.

Though it needs more space compared to the Rift, the HTC Vive is still a winner when it comes to features. Both devices also have accelerometer, a gyroscope and built-in sensors.

Game offerings

The two VR headsets offer exclusive games depending on the genre. For the HTC Vive, a user-friendly platform is offered to the gamers as it includes in its exclusives "VR Funhouse: The Lab" and "FantasticContraption." On the other hand, Oculus Rift comes with action-packed titles like "Damaged Core," "Feral Rites" and "Minecraft."

Tracking motion

Sensors on the controllers and headsets of the HTC Vive receive lasers from the base stations of the headset's so-called "Lighthouse." On the other hand, the Oculus Rift only has a single optical sensor which would require players to get an additional one if they want to move around a lot.

Price

Having the higher price among the two headsets, the HTC Vive is sold for $800 while the Oculus Rift is pegged at $600. Making the VR headsets compatible to other consoles such as the PS4 will increase the cost of the device to more than $1,000 due to additional hardware.
