Star Trek Dating Websites Help Trekkies Find Love

The galaxy is so massive that it may sometimes seem that the journey to find that perfect match is endless. Especially when you are looking for someone with very specific and similar interests as you, such as those who love Star Trek.

Many dating websites match people based on some similar interests, personality traits, age and distance. 15 million people in North America used interest-specific dating sites in 2011, according to Dan Slater, author of Love in the Time of Algorithms.

Interest-specific dating sites have become increasingly popular over the past few years.  Sites like ChristianMingle.com, FarmersOnly.com and Gamingpassions have linked people with specific lifestyles.  The match-making process on sites like these goes beyond just a few questions about hobbies and personal characteristics.

"There's a different kind of site for everybody these days. Finding something that is unique about yourself that you can share with someone else is really important," online dating expert Julie Spira, founder of CyberDatingExpert.com, tells The Daily Beast.

Now, Star Trek and other sci-fi fans have sites such as StarTrekDating.com and Trekkiedating.com where they can meet people who are just as passionate to Klingon to.

Beam me up, hottie.

"Star Trek fans are nerds...They know what they're looking for," says Oliver Gough, owner of StarTrekDating.com.  They're the people who "nine times out of 10 post pictures of themselves Photoshopped on the Starship."

Members join for different reasons; to find a date to a convention, to find real love, or someone to practice speaking Klingon with.  Regardless of the specific intention, everyone on these dating sites are members because they want to meet people who are just as interested in Star Trek as they are, and on StarTrekDating.com, you can even choose your own clan.

"These aren't people who have just seen a few episodes and moved on," says Frank Farcus, creator of Trekkiedating.com. "They're hard-core. They go to conventions. They dress up. They worship the show."

So if  "Second star to the right...and straight on 'til morning" hasn't been of too much assistance in finding love, and you're still on the quest in space for the Borg Queen or Captain Kirk you've been waiting for, fear not and give cyberspace a try.
