After a long, insufferable wait, fans of the "Ghost In The Shell" franchise have gotten a taste of Rupert Sanders' live-action adaptation starring Scarlett Johansson. The movie is marketed as a visual spectacle of a thriller, pulling a string of promotional materials during a recent teaser/trailer launch. Much like the fans' "white-washing" issue with "Doctor Strange", "Ghost In The Shell" is plagued with controversies surrounding Johansson's casting, with fans calling out the studios for refusing to cast a non-white actor. Politics aside, Johansson seems a logical choice for the role, what with her recent forays into action-thrillers such as Luc Besson's "Lucy" and Marvel Studios' superhero movies.
The movie, however, released this teaser for fans of the franchise.
It is the movie's live-action take at one of the most key sequences from the anime, the one where Johansson's character named Major is created through a process called "shelling". The visual treat of a sneak-peak has fans raving about the upcoming movie, which is directed by "Snow White and the Huntsman" director Rubert Sanders and written by screenwriters Jonathan Herman and Jamie Ross.
"Ghost In The Shell" is adapted from the 1995 anime feature directed by Mamoru Oshii, following a cyborg agent named Major Motoko Kusanagi who is out to stop a villainous "ghost hacker" called The Puppet Master. The 2017 live-action adaptation stars Johansson, Michael Pitt ("I Origins"), Juliette Binoche ("The English Patient"), and Takeshi Kitano ("Battle Royale"). The movie is due out March 2017.
