Hayao Miyazaki Steps Out Of Retirement To Create Another Animation Feature

Hayao Miyazaki is the co-founder of Studio Ghibli, home to beloved Japanese animation features such as "Graveyard Of The Flies", "My Neighbor Totoro", and "Spirited Away", among many others. Miyazaki is an animator and filmmaker himself and has created numerous animations until he announced his retirement in 2013 with "The Wind Rises".

That wasn't the first time Miyazaki that he would retire, the first instance of which happened in 1998 when he declared "Princess Mononoke" to be his last animation feature. This, of course, wasn't true. Miyazaki would later produce six more features, including his Oscar-winning animation "Spirited Away". After his 2013 retirement, Miyazaki resigned to sleepy work at the Ghibli Museum, producing only a short film in the next year or so.

In a television special, however, it has been reported that the 75 year-old director will step out of retirement to create one more feature film called "Boro the Caterpillar", a project he has been working on for approximately twenty years. The story is poised to take the form of a feature-film and will derive from the short film he produced while working at the Ghibli Museum. Miyazaki describes it as a "story of a tiny, hairy caterpillar; so tiny that it may be easily squished between your fingers."

While this confirms that Miyazaki is commencing work on "Boro the Caterpillar", no news have been announced so far about an official greenlight for the project. This means we have zero information as to when the movie will be completed, let alone be ready for a release. We are holding out home, though, that the movie is going to be worth waiting for.
