Target First Big U.S. Retailer To Slash Price Of Wii U

Nintendo fan site Nintendo Everything spotted Target's reduction of the Wii U Basic Set by $60, bringing the price down to $239.99.

Though other big US retailers have yet to drop the price of the struggling system, Amazon slashed their Wii U price by $20

According to Gamespot, multiple markdowns of the console came to UK's Asda supermarket who at one point, had the Wii U Basic for £149 before bumping the price back to £199.

This comes as another blow to Nintendo's Wii U inability to gain marketshare like its previous successful Wii. Since its launch last November, the Wii U has sold 3.45 million units worldwide and only 55,000 during April in the U.S.

The struggling system has been hit hard this month with EA admitting that they currently don't have any games in development for Nintendo's console. Studios like Insomniac Games (Ratchet and Clank) and Avalanche Studios (Just Cause) have all announced no future software for the system.

Ubisoft has been one of Nintendo's truly dedicated third-party following yesterday's told Gameindustry International that it would stand by the Wii U.

"As with any new console, it takes some time to grow an established base," said Ubisoft spokesperson. "Ubisoft has a varied and high-quality line for Wii U, with more big titles on the way including Rayman Legends, Watch Dogs, Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag and Splinter Cell Blacklist.

Nintendo will make a case for it's next-gen console next month at E3 in Los Angeles. Let's hope it sparks some interest.
