NBA Rumors: Mario Chalmers Comes Close To Comeback, May Suit Up For The Cleveland Cavaliers

The Memphis Grizzlies point guard, Mario Chalmers is currently nursing an injury but there are talks circulating that the Cleveland Cavaliers are interested to acquire LeBron James' former teammate during his Miami Heat years to help them strengthen their bench.

After suffering a season-ending injury when he ruptured his Achilles tendon last year, Sports Illustrated reports that Mario Chalmers is close to returning to the Memphis Grizzlies lineup this early December. Even with the injury, rumors have been swirling that many teams are interested in acquiring the former Miami Heat point guard for his championship experience.

The Cleveland Cavaliers was not able to recruit a back-up point guard during the off-season, a position left by Matthew Delavedova - who signed with the Milwaukee Bucks. Since then, the point guard duties has been toggled between Kyrie Irving and LeBron James.

It is known that LeBron James will look into his former teammates for support. Upon returning to the Cleveland Cavaliers, he was able to lure Mike Miller and James Jones to join him. This year LeBron James was successful enough to recruit Chris Anderson from the Miami Heat to be the back-up center with the departure of Timofey Mozgov to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Now, Mario Chalmers could be the next Miami Heat player to join LeBron James with the Cleveland Cavaliers. The move will be considered as a boost to the Cleveland Cavaliers' chances to repeat as champions this 2016-2017 NBA season as Mario Chalmers gives the Cleveland Cavaliers added championship experience and familiarity with LeBron James.

The signing could take place right before the trade deadline and as early as December when Mario Chalmers gets cleared to play again in the league. Prior to leaving the 2015-2016 season with the injury, Mario Chalmers was averaging 10.8 points, 3.8 assists and 2.6 rebounds in 22.8 minutes of playing time.
