Xbox Division head Phil Spencer has made it pretty clear that consumers should expect the Xbox Scorpio to have a "higher price." This prompted analyst Michael Pachter to comment that it would be "suicide" for Microsoft to release Project Scorpio for more than $399. Not to let the beast of a console's name be tainted ahead of its release, Spencer reveals the reason why the forthcoming console will require a hefty sum.

The main reason why the Xbox Scorpio is going to be more costly than the Xbox One S is that the console is targeted towards high-end consumers. Spencer subsequently adds that Project Scorpio is not going to be the price point decision that will contribute to Microsoft's success in the industry.

Xbox Scorpio Price & Features: Target Market - High End Consumer

"Scorpio will be a premium console. It will cost more than S, obviously, that's how we are building it," Spencer stated of the Xbox Scorpio, via Gamepur. "We have not announced the pricing yet, but I want to make sure that the investment we are putting into the product of Scorpio meets the demands of the higher-end consumer and that will be a higher price."

The Xbox Scorpio was announced at the E3 2O16 briefing, along with the news of its release in 2017. The brand new game console boasts six teraflops of performance, a 320 GB memory bandwidth, and will feature eight cores. Xbox marketing boss Aaron Greenberg further emphasizes its capacity by claiming the Scorpio's superior power amongst other game consoles.

Xbox Scorpio Features & Specs: The Ultimate Gaming Experience

Xbox execs promise the ultimate gaming experience with the Xbox Scorpio - the primary reason why it is priced at a high level. Current starting price for the Xbox One S starts at $300, to give would-be buyers a margin, given Scorpio's exact price still remains to be seen.

Microsoft is yet to release updates on the upcoming Xbox Scorpio in the weeks to come. The power-console is slated to go on sale in holiday 2017.
