Dan Harmon Returning to Community? [RUMOR]

NBC's Community has its diehard fans. The type of fans who build video games based on the show. Luckily for those people, Community got picked up for another season earlier this year.

The shortened-season was granted because the show is one season away from its fifth. Season number five is always a big one for a series looking to get syndication.

Season four started without the show's creator, Dan Harmon, who left the show after continued disagreements with executives. Without Harmon, the show's fourth season failed to pique critic's interest. Lead by new showrunners David Guarascio and Moses Port (Aliens in America) the fourth season of Community lacked the originality of the Harmon years.

It now seems that executives can see that the show needs its creator back. During a recent episode of the HarmonTown podcast Harmon let it slip that the network had asked him to return for the fifth season. It is unknown if he would return to the series as a showrunner or in a diminished capacity.

According to Hollywookiee, Harmon let word slip during an unreleased part of the podcast. He jokingly told the podcast audience that he would only return if Community star Chevy Chase also returned to the show.

Harmon famously got into a public spat with the series regular during season 3. Chase, who played Pierce on the show, got into a widely publicized argument with Harmon after the release of unflattering voicemail messages from the actor. Chase eventually decided to leave the show after Harmon's exit last year. Community's fourth season has been widely reported to be his last with the show.

If Harmon returned to Community it would be a very surprising reunion for the show. He has been on record as saying he would have fired himself if he was an executive. Harmon has said that he and Community executives had been in a disagreement over the shows creative direction since the first season.

Harmon has been busy since exiting the show. Last year, he signed a deal to write pilot for Fox. The pilot was reportedly a more traditional multi-camera sitcom.
