Sega wants its fans to smell likes its most popular characters. The video game developer has partnered with Epic Scents to bring a collection of gamer-centric fragrances to the masses. Details are currently sparse but a Golden Axe scented candle is hopefully in the works.
"We're excited to join forces with Sega to develop proprietary scents for their brands," says Project Director for Epic Scents Jim Kavanaugh in a company press release.
Epic Scents says it plans to release its Sega inspired fragrances next month. The type of products the company is still under wraps. However, Epic Scents website alludes to air fresheners based on Sonic the Hedgehog as something that's being worked on.
The company is known for creating air fresheners, colognes and perfumes. It was started by two chemists with a love of video games. Founders of the company say the goal of the firm is to create a line of scents that 'evoke powerful emotions and memory responses' for classic video games. Located in Connecticut, Epic Scents started out as a subsidiary of Bedoukian Research Inc. The company has over 40 years of experience in the Flavor and Fragrance industry.
Epic Scents has previous experience making video game scents. Last year, the firm partnered with Capcom to create a line of air fresheners based on Mega Man and Pronto Man. The air fresheners were produced based on customer feedback of what the two characters would actually smell like. Mega Man's fresheners are reported to give off a clean dewy, ozonic and lightly floral scent. Pronto Man products were reported to carry scent characteristics such as rebellious, heroic and apple-cinnamony. Epic Scents says the air fresheners give off the delicate smell of Pronto Man's favorite breakfast cereal.
The Mega Man and Pronto Man air fresheners were introduced at last year's New York Comic Con. Epic Scents product line was also handed out as part of this year's Emmy gift bags.
