WWE Leprechaun Reboot taps Zach Lipovsky to Direct

The Leprechaun Series is awesomely awful. Starring Warwick Davis (Willow), the series never took itself very seriously and got by on its ridiculous plot. The series started as a schlocky horror movie about an evil leprechaun that terrorizes a pre-Friends Jennifer Aniston before eventually morphing into a silly collection of direct-to-DVD sequels with titles like Leprechaun: In the Hood and Leprechaun: In Space.

It's been a long time since the strange series had new installment. An original film in the series has not been made since the 2003 classic Leprechaun: Back 2 tha Hood. Luckily, a reboot for the series is on its way. Best of all the reimagining will be made by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).

The WWE had previously announced the film would be a starring vehicle for a wrestler named Hornswoggle. Leprechaun: Orgins, will reportedly be a more serious take on the character. The WWE has said the film will feature a more hard edged horror narrative. Now, a director for the reboot has been announced. The Wrap reports that Zach Lipovsky of the reality TV series On the Lot will direct the film.

Lipovsky started his career as a special effects guru for short films before getting his big break on the Steven Spielberg-produced reality show. On the Lot saw 16 aspiring film makers compete for a development deal at DreamWorks. The deal failed to produce any films for the director which is perhaps the most Hollywood of all lessons to learn. His most recent title to be released was a Syfy channel original movie called Tasmanian Devils. Lipovsky's work on the TV movie indicates that he may be the perfect choice to lead another film in the ridiculous series.

WWE Studios has been busy producing cheesy good times at the cinema. Along with the upcoming Leprechaun reboot, the studio is also working on a feature length animated film based on the Scooby-Doo series. The film will see wrestlers Triple H, John Cena, Vince McMahon join the Mystery Gang as they try to solve a mystery at WrestleMania.
