'Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them' Box Office Results: 'Harry Potter' Prequel Ranks Number One With $29.7 Million

Another J.K. Rowling success, “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” has landed number one at the box office just this Friday. The film earned $29.7 million, leaving “Doctor Strange” and “Trolls” behind.

The film “Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them” was directed by David Yates based on J.K. Rowling’s story. The hit film revolves around Newt Scamander, portrayed by Eddie Redmayne, who knows a lot about magical creatures and finds trouble when beasts from his magical bag escape and spread around the City of New York.

The story’s setting is in 1902. The star-studded film was joined by actors Colin Farrell, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, and Samantha Morton. “Fantastic Beasts” is the first out of five films of the franchise, says Variety. “Fantastic Beasts” producers reportedly spent $180 million to make the movie.

“Fantastic Beasts,” Marvel’s “Doctor Strange” and DreamWorks Animation’s “Trolls” completed the top three of box office hits. Paramount’s “Arrival,” starring Jeremy Renner and Amy Adams, is now on its second week.

The success of “Fantastic Beasts” meant only one thing to its competitors. The other new films got the cold shoulder. Included to the list is the boxing movie “Bleed for This.” It tells Vinny Paz’s story, a worldwide champion who is struggling to overcome an accident he experience. It is directed by Ben Younger and also stars Aaron Eckhart and Katey Sagal in addition to Miles Teller. It has a $6 million budget.

STX’s “Edge of Seventeen” did not get much attention, too. The teenage film, starring Hailee Steinfeld, centers on a high school girl having a hard time accepting the fact that her best friend is dating her brother. It’s a coming- of- age comedy film which cost about $9 million to finish. According to NY Times, it’s one of the best films about high school kids in 25 years.
