‘Pokemon Go’ Latest News & Update: Niantic To Introduce More Wearable Devices; Increased Pokemon Gym Partnership With Commercial Brands

Exciting things are in store for avid "Pokemon Go" players. Niantic is looking to introduce interesting innovations to the popular mobile gaming app that includes more wearable tech, as well as adding more Pokemon gym or special promotions with famous commercial brands.

The year 2016 may have marked a busy period for Niantic given the company's release of its hit game "Pokemon Go." After months of addressing various post-launch systemic issues and various concerns, the gaming company was finally given some breathing room to release several improvements to the gaming app and even deploy its first gaming event held during the Halloween holidays.

However, the incoming year will provide Niantic another chance to launch more enhancements for the mobile gaming app. In an interview with Marketing Week, the company's chief marketing officer Mike Quigley shared some of Niantic's plans for "Pokemon Go."

Exploring wearable devices and technology is something that Niantic has included in its "Pokemon Go" development roadmap. Aside from the "Pokemon Go" wrist watch, the gaming company is looking for other potential enhancements in wearable technology. December will even mark the targeted release of an Apple Watch feature that will include certain "Pokemon Go" gameplay moves and other trainer information.

Quigley also highlighted the gaming company's partnership with some famous brands for "Pokemon Go" gameplay locations or events. Currently, it has partnered with the fastfood chain McDonalds where its Japan-based branches served as Pokemon gyms for avid players.

Following the game's successful Japan launch, Niantic has furthered increased its "Pokemon Go" collaboration with commercial brands in other locations. Apart from McDonalds, the gaming company has partnered with Globe, one of the Philippines mobile carriers, as well as the firm SoftBank Mobile.

Meanwhile, gaming leaks discovered hidden in the latest "Pokemon Go" update codes contained a list of three new sponsors dubbed Spatula, Thermometer and Knife, according to Silph Road. It appears that Niantic used placeholders or codenames to hide the identity of the said new sponsors.

"Pokemon Go" was launched in July in the U.S., Australia and New Zealand before it was released to other global markets. Learn more about the game's speculated Thanksgiving event in the clip below:
