Halo: Spartan Assault will arrive soon on Windows 8, smartphones and tablets

The Halo franchise is getting bigger with every passing day and now the company has decided to take the next big step in its evolution by bringing the franchise to the smaller screen and other platforms for the first time ever.

Microsoft has announced that Halo: Spartan Assault, the fast approaching shooter title set in the Halo universe, developed by 343 Industries with Vanguard Games, is arriving on Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 this July. The game will also see a release on PCs, smartphones and tablets.

As stated by the company, the events of Halo: Spartan Assault will be taking place between the events of Halo 3 and 4 and “is a new chapter of the award-winning 'Halo' universe that explores the first missions of the Spartan Ops program and dives deeper into the backstory of Human-Covenant wars.”

“Play through the eyes of either Commander Sarah Palmer or Spartan Davis stationed aboard the UNSC Infinity as they fight never-before-seen battles against Covenant forces.”

Halo: Spartan Assault, in its attempt to showcase Commander Sarah Palmer’s rise to power, will offer as many as 25 missions to unveil the story in a top down camera view. What’s more, the game will also integrate with Halo 4 and players can earn experience points, new achievements, and unlock emblems for their Halo 4 Spartan career, alongside additional integration features that will be available after launch.

“With ‘Halo: Spartan Assault,’ we wanted to take ‘Halo’ out of the living room and create a brand new experience that was built specifically for a different screen,” said Dan Ayoub, Executive Producer on Halo: Spartan Assault. “This is an opportunity for us to define what makes ‘Halo’ unique on mobile platforms and really raise the bar for what is possible.”

“We went through multiple control scheme iterations before arriving at something that we felt was perfect,” Ayoub added. “We designed a system that is adaptive and helps bring that old-school flavor of fast and frenzied twin-stick shooting to life.”

The game will allow enhanced customizable equipment load outs with the help of Halo’s well known battery of armor abilities and weapons, and this includes the likes of Magnum, Assault Rifle, Spartan Laser and more.

Other popular vehicles, such as the Wraith, Scorpion, Ghost and Grizzly, will also be available and can also be commandeered against the horde of attacking Covenant forces. The game will be priced at $6.99 and be available as a digital download.
