It's been months since we've heard anything official from Bethesda involving an actual follow up to Fallout 3, leaving us with nothing more than rumors to go on, and a new crop has begun to take root.
Showing off two new consoles and games for each, E3 was kind of a big deal this year, the big title from Bethesda most likely being The Elder Scrolls Online. But according to a new set of rumors, somewhere behind closed doors, the developer was showing off a game that arguably could've grabbed far more attention: Fallout 4.
According to a contributor at bubblews, the developer gave a 45 minute presentation, followed by a 37 second long trailer of Fallout 4 to a select few at this year's E3. The writer of the post then follows with a number of rumors from a so-called "insider," but offers up nothing that can actually be verified. As such, take all of the following with a big grain of salt.
It's claimed that Fallout 4 has been in development since January 2011 by a limited amount of people, as the rest were busy working on The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Since development on Skyrim since completed with all DLC now released, the team has since grown.
At the moment, Bethesda is eyeing Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 as platforms for the game's release. Official confirmation of the game is said to come before next year's E3, and isn't expected to launch until October of 2015, so best be patient.
The game will take place in Boston, MA, and the surrounding towns of Somerville, Cambridge, and Arlington. Oddly enough, the Boston setting falls in line with rumors that were circulating last August, where a Redditor claiming a connection to a Bethesda staffer said the next game would take place in Boston. The Redditor later admitted he had made the whole thing up. But other Redditors had similar claims. One supposed worker at MIT claimed that Bethesda was scouting around on the campus. Given the previous rumors, it's hard to say whether or not this writer at bubblews is just pullings things out of thin air or not.
As far as the trailer goes, the writer describes it beginning "with a half-broken phone sparking. The scene pulls out slowly with the stereotypical music you would hear. Slowly you work out the scene is pulling out of a belltower. As it pulls further out, you see a destroyed town around. This is Boston. Suddenly, you hear the bell chime loudly, and the screen changes black instantly. The words of Ron Pearlman are heard "War... War never changes...". The logo for Fallout 4 appears with the 5 platforms above listed.
We'll keep you posted if Bethesda ever offers anything official. Don't hold your breath but stay tuned.
